  • Evie Girl!

In 2018, I moved to Vietnam, and within two months of arriving, I had fostered a little ginger kitten who I named Evie.

I remember going to Hanoi Pet Adoption for what I thought was a casual chat to see if I would be a suitable foster mum. I arrived at this five-story house, and inside, every room had cages stacked from floor to ceiling. All the cages were small, some housing two or three cats. The stench of cat pee invaded my nose. The lady then informed me I could pick a cat to take home… and here I was, thinking it was just going to be a chat.

We slowly made our way up the narrow flights of stairs, passing room after room filled with cats. Eventually, I stopped at a cage that had a tiny little ginger kitten inside. I was informed that it was a female ginger (did you know that only 10% of ginger cats are female?) who was around two months old. I took her out of her cage, and she purred instantly. When I tried to put her back in, she clung to me for dear life, as if to say, “Don’t leave me here!”

I knew that I could not leave her, so with a borrowed cat carrier, I took her home, having to ask the taxi driver to stop at a pet shop on the way to buy cat supplies. Once we were home, Evie quickly settled into her new life. She loved lying in the sun, chasing geckos, and snuggling with me. It took her time to realize she was always going to have food and to slow down her eating—she would scoff her food down so quickly that it made her sick. I always thought this was out of fear of not being fed.

Fast forward seven years, and it is safe to say that I am no longer fostering Evie—she is very much my little baby! This cat is treated like royalty. She still loves lounging in the sun, chasing geckos, and going out onto the balcony (something that gives me heart palpitations after she fell from the sixth floor… but that is a story for another day).

As I sit at home feeling sorry for myself (I am still sick), I feel exceptionally grateful for my little fur baby and the amazing companionship she provides me.

  • Lord of the Rings!

Have you read these books? Watched the films?

Today I was chatting with a friend asking her what she did over the weekend. I was instantly a little jealous when she told me she watched two of the Lord of the Rings films. This got me thinking… what an OUTSTANDING series! Now, I am not fantasy lover but something about this series has captivated me since I was a young girl.

I have strong childhood memories of trying to watch all three movies back to back on a Sunday morning before my mum would tell me to turn off the telly and go outside and play. Also, what girl didn’t have a massive crush on Legolas (it was something about his long hair and elf ears! AHAHAHAHAH).

Long flight somewhere? What better way to kill some time than watching these films. Each one is roughly 3 hours long…. 9 hours later you have arrived in your destination and watched three fantastic films.

If I am feeling a little homesick what better cure than watching Lord of the Rings to remind myself of the beautiful country I call home.

If you have not watched these films I highly reccommend them (I have not actually read the books…)

All this chat has me wanting to go home and get watching!

  • Getting Started!

Agh! What a mission to get started! Was anyone else filled with anxiety trying to decide what to write about? I have written and deleted my post at least 4 times now…. and still don’t really feel like I have anything to say!
Currently my blog looks so ugly (have not had the capacity to make it pretty or the brainpower to figure out how… yet). I promise it will get better as the writing goes on and I get in the groove of things.

  • Having a Laugh!

Do you ever see something that makes you laugh?

The other day while riding home from work (on my motorbike) a girl drove past me and sticking out of her backpack was a leek. I was in fits of laugher thinking about riding up next to her on my bike and say “Hey! There is a leek in your bag!” I thought I was so funny and genuinely laughed about this for a good 10 minutes.
